“The Emy” is awarded annually to an outstanding leader in the community known for their exceptional charitable giving. The award is given its name from Emyre “Emy” Barrios Robinson, who has been noted in the community for her outstanding philanthropic giving throughout the years.
Emy embarked on her humanitarian path after graduating from the University of Houston at the age of 45. Soon after her commencement in 1980, she helped establish Barrios Technology Inc., an aerospace engineering and technology services firm, and served as President, CEO, Chairman of the Board, and majority owner for more than 10 years. Because of Emy’s influence and motivation within the company, Barrios Technology has grown to 600 employees and grossed more than 70 million as of 2008. In addition to her accomplishments, Emy also created the Emyre Barrios Robinson Scholarship Endowment at the University of Houston at Clear Lake, and served on numerous
not-for-profit boards in Houston and the Clear Lake area. Most notably she served on the board at Devereux Texas Treatment Network from April 2003 to July 2009.
Emy was an inspiration to many and highly respected within our community. She will be greatly missed.
